In 2022 we have had two 4 trainees graduate with certificates in Health and wellbeing one trainee has just completed their Business Diploma level 5 . We currently have 10 people enrolled in the programme with two trainees working towards Apprenticeship in Mental Health and Disability Support. The expected duration for Disability Support Work qualifications ranges from 7 months to 30 months. Since practical experience is extremely important in this industry, on-the-job training is completed alongside work in a disability support work environment. The benefit to our company is integral as a formal qualification in disability or business can enhance our peoples experience and this also creates and fosters greater health outcomes Examples of qualifications and duration: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2) – 7 months New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) Support Work – 12 months New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 4) Advanced Support – 12 months Apprenticeship in Health and Wellbeing (Level 4) Social and Community Services, Community Facilitation Strand – 18 months Apprenticeship in Health and Wellbeing (Level 4) Rehabilitation Assistance, Brain Injury rehabilitation Support Strand – 18 months Apprenticeship in Health and Wellbeing (Level 4) Peer Support – 18 months New Zealand Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (Level 5) Applied Practice – 18 – 24 months New Zealand Diploma in Vision Rehabilitation/Rehabilitation Working in disability support services is a rewarding career that helps people with disabilities and their families achieve goals to maximise their independence. Disability Support workers can make a real difference in people’s lives. The rewards are huge, although the work can be difficult. You need to be flexible and adaptable as the needs of people vary. The role can include working shifts and may involve working during evenings and weekends. An historic pay equity settlement for care and support workers in New Zealand in 2017 means that Care workers are now recognised and rewarded based on their qualifications.
